When we first went to Cagayan for the Cagayan Food Crawl, all we are seeing was panciterias that offer Pansit Batil Patong – a local Cagayan noodle dish. So, we thought that Cagayan Food Crawl will be a battle of Panciteria. But, we are surprised when different restaurants confirm and reaching out to be part of Cagayan Food Crawl.
Here is the 2nd list of the must try restaurants in Tuguegarao.
8th Avenue Coffee Shop
When you are looking for a legit caffeine fix, then you must visit 8Th Avenue. Great drinks and awesome ambiance will welcome you with the very accommodating crew of this coffee shop. With wide variety of coffee and frappe to choose from, 8th Avenue will surely satisfy your cravings. There is no question with their drinks, it is indeed mouthwatering but what fascinated me is the modern rustic ambiance of the coffee shop. The whole place is Instagram-worthy plus the coca cola items all over the place works; it catches attention and makes the shop unique, though it is not related to coffee.
Kainang Pilipino is a buffet restaurant that offers authentic cagayano and Filipino dishes. What makes Kainang Pilipino different from other restaurants is that they preserved and still using the way of cooking that inherited from generations to generations. Since 1982, the restaurant is one of the favorite go-to places for barkadas, workmates, and families who want to have happy memories thru good food. Their Kare Kare, a family recipe by the owners and the Pinaupong Manok which is a favorite and featured by Kris Aquino in her Magazine is a must try. But, personally, I love the binagoogang baboy, one of the best binagoongan I tasted.
Surprisingly, Ice Craze is not your sweets and dessert shop as it offers foods like baby back ribs, spaghetti etc. The owner explains that the original plan for the restaurant is to offer sweet and cold drinks which are relevant to the crazy hot weather in Tuguegarao. But because of the owner’s love for food and cooking, they added menus like Beef Sukiyaki, Crispy Sisig, Sizzling Chicken and more. These additions to their menu became a hit especially their version of grilled back ribs where they consumed hundreds of kilos of meat daily to cater the demands of their customers. Ice Craze is now one of the favorite places to hang out by foodies and tourist in Tuguegarao
Crown Restaurant offers affordable dishes without compromising the quality of food. Crown restaurant has menu from Chinese, Filipino and American influence. Their pork asado and crispy pata with the yangchow rice is a perfect combination. Actually, all their foods are cooked well and taste good. They also have cakes and pastries for dessert but their chicharon is the runaway winner.
Fracasso Pizza is a local pizza store in Tuguegarao. They have pizzas from a small solo size pizza to gigantic one that can feed at least 10-12 people. They also have lots of pizza toppings to choose from with special cheese made for the Filipino taste. If you need a pizza for a party of planning a pizza party Fracasso is the best choice!
Billy Jacks Panciteria
Tuguegarao’s well-known food is the Pansit Batil Patung and Billy Jacks are one of the best places to eat this authentic Cagayan food. Not like others, Billy Jacks Pansiteria innovated on serving its Batil Patung which makes it unique from others. They added Filipino favorite as additional toppings to the noodles like Balut which surprisingly complements well with the other ingredients. Other add-ons are Tapa, Chorizo Longanisa, and Sisig.
Hotel Carmelita ( Acustico Bar)
Located at Hotel Carmelita, Acustico bar is a place to go when you want to enjoy the night with good music and food. They have delectable foods that everyone can enjoy with a group while listening to the soulful acoustic music from their regular performers. Their chicken in honey sauce and chicken in garlic sauce is a must try. If you are in a group you may also try their culinare pizza and pansit batil patung.
La Luna Grill
La Luna Grill is an awesome place to unwind and chill with friends, it is actually best for barkada night out. The ambiance, the food, and the music is great. There is two dish of La Luna Grill that stands out for me, the Sinanta Rice a noodle soup and sugar coated fried rice flour which is authentic Cagayan/Ybanag cuisine and the flaming chicken which will surprise you because it is literally flaming. La Luna Grill also has videoke rooms in case you need a bit of privacy.
Hilaria’s is a newly opened bar and restaurant in Tuguegarao that offers not only good food but the homey ambiance and soulful music. Hilaria’s, named after the owner’s grandmother is an old house converted into restaurant which makes the place more homey, comfortable and relaxing. Who wouldn’t love to dine with such an ambiance and good food? it is indeed a place to chill. Hilarias Chicken and Chicken ala Hilaria is my favorite they both have a unique taste that can be found on other chicken menus of other restaurants. They also offer cocktails and drinks and coffees. This place is another must visit chill place in Tuguegarao.
Cagayan is indeed rich with delectable foods and awesome restaurants. Thanks to Cagayan Food Crawl that we discovered all of these. This is one of kind flavorful summer escapade that all of us will never forget.
