Natividad: The gem of the East

Natividad in Pangasinan is one of the underrated towns/destinations located in the eastern part of the province. Since Pangasinan is more known of its beaches, tourists often visit the towns in the west where Hundred Islands and Bolinao(Patar Beach)is located, not knowing that there is a hidden gem in the eastern part of the province.

An estimated travel time of one hour from Rosales (SM Rosales) you will find the humble and beautiful town of Natividad, a landlocked municipality but still blessed with natural and man-made wonders – the home of the first and only sky plaza in the province and the breathtaking Maranum Falls.

Natividad Sky Plaza is a man-made destination. With 200 steps from the foot of the mountain, the sky plaza houses a mini-church, zipline, picnic (tables) area, basketball court and a function hall. From the sky plaza, you will enjoy the panoramic view of Natividad and its neighboring towns. But it doesn’t stop there. At the top of the mountain, you will find the Christ the Redeemer statue that is similar to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

On your way to the Christ the Redeemer you will pass by the grotto of Virgin Mary and 30 feet Cross.

Climbing to the top might be tiring but it is all worth it. You will surely amaze with the panoramic view from the top where you can see the green farms, the river that surrounds the mountain and the beautiful forest of Caraballo Mountains. The best time to go there is early morning for you to witness the sunrise.

If you get tired, there are resorts at the foot of the mountain for you to have a rest or swim in their pools where water is naturally coming from the mountains.

After a short rest, you can visit Maranum Falls. It is estimated 2 kilometers from the base of sky plaza. But you can’t bring a car or a service up to the falls so you need to walk for about 30-45 minutes to get there. As you walk to the falls you will be mesmerized by the views you will be passing by. Huge trees, different kinds of plants, flowers and colorful butterflies plus the chirp of the birds with the cool fresh air. So relaxing! Though, you need to be extra careful on some part because of some steep paths.

As you get there you will be amazed by the beauty of the falls. I am telling you the falls is really beautiful! It is one of the best. The air is cool as well as it clear waters. Non-swimmers like me will enjoy swimming in the basin of the falls because the water is shallow not like other waterfalls so you don’t need to worry of drowning.LOL. But there are parts that are deep especially in the second basin.

The place was so relaxing because of the cool fresh breeze and the sound of the swiftly flowing water; you will forget all your stress and problems even for a while. Actually, there is a part where you can sit on a rock located at the base of the falls where you can feel the water flowing down as if you are being massaged.

You will also enjoy taking photos because the place is Instagram-worthy, I guess we wasted half of our time there on taking photos. LOL

Natividad is a must visit and you might consider it on your next escapade. I will assure you, it is worth it.
